University Admission Requirements

Choosing a career can be a stressful decision for some learners who are unclear where they see themselves in 5, even 10 years time. The following is taken from a presentation we developed for our Grade 9 learners’ subject choice 2008.

 

Minimum requirements for Admission to Tertiary Education:

 

§  Higher Certificate Courses:

    • A National Senior Certificate

 

§  Diploma Courses

    • A National Senior Certificate
    • A pass of 40% - 49% or better (AR 3) in FOUR NSC 20 credit subjects on the designated subject list

 

§  Bachelor Degrees Courses

    • A National Senior Certificate with
    • A pass of 50% - 59% or better (AR 4) in FOUR NSC 20 credit subjects on the designated subject list plus
    • ANY specific institutional requirements e.g. specific subject requirements for faculty
    • Institutional “points” system (see below)
    • December Grade 11 and later results AARP tests – June/July in Grade 12
